Vague Souvenir, “City On Fire”
Tonight, the band members recorded the track “City On Fire”, originally by Johnathan Rice, for their new upcoming project “Vague Souvenir”… A part of Ceremony & Jubilation, this project is a recollection of songs that inspired, moved, changed them over the last years, images of what they lived all together and wanted to share with all of you…
A soulful, meaningful performance… I had the privilege of sitting quietly in the studio, behind the control board, hearing every sound with a definite perfection… Closing my eyes, I was transported somewhere I had never been before…
Right after the recording was over, we gathered in the middle of the recording spot, started chatting a little bit about this project called “Vague Souvenir”, the artwork of which was chosen in 2008, and about the nature of it. Though 2008 was not the perfect timing for this project to come to life, it kept maturing, growing through each and every one of us.
Talking about this reminded me of how faithful we all have been to each other throughout the years… Well, we did betray each other. We did betray ourselves. But never, in no circumstances, has the vision faded… To the contrary, it kept growing, growing, and growing, until we could finally make it see the light of day. It was quite nostalgic to remember all of this, but a true celebration at the same time, to see something for which the band has worked on for several years, putting themselves through trials and fire, becoming and embodying the project itself… Feels good to see something so real in this era of plastic, fake, fast-consumption…

This song is definitely a great representation of what we went through… The vision has always kept us together… no matter what… I think that’s the beauty of having a collective vision. Even when some moments can become hazy, even if there are moments of betrayal, when you keep your eyes and heart on the vision, no matter the circumstances, it will continue to grow and flourish!! I had tears in my eyes reading this and remembering all those moments… but being so proud of seeing all that we have accomplished together come to life…

“We did betray ourselves. But never, in no circumstances, has the vision faded… To the contrary, it kept growing, growing, and growing, until we could finally make it see the light of day.”
For me, this is something that surpasses my understanding and brings me back to seek the essence of life. I’m touched to see how a vision can keep every individual together, no matter how many struggles can make them want to destroy themselves or others. But it seems as when a vision is engraved in our hearts, no matter how much we can question ourselves because of the circumstances, no matter how much we doubt that we have a role to play for it to be accomplished… there is something that will make us keep pressing on, and become even more united in maturity, freedom and peace.

”Though 2008 was not the perfect timing for this project to come to life, it kept maturing, growing through each and every one of us”.
This is what Stephanie says in her blog… I wonder what projects are going to bloom out of what I am going through now, what moments are going to end up being defining even if they seem simple in my current reality.
I guess it’s not only to the artists that this opportunity is given… amazing fruits can come out as I go through life, maturing and growing in me even if I don’t realize it. For me, this blog gives a special meaning to the song “City On Fire”…

Thanks Stephanie, for always breathing life into those blogs about “Vague Souvenir”! To me, this sentence you wrote says everything about the type of life that Your Favorite Enemies always committed themselves to live, for better or for worst, with the humble and honest desire of living a life that’s greater than their individual and collective human nature: “Well, we did betray each other. We did betray ourselves. But never, in no circumstances, has the vision faded…” Thanks to the vision, for sticking us together, for empowering us, for relieving us and for refreshing us as well… making us illegible for the race!! Long live music!!
