I’m A YFE Cowboy Baby!

In 2008, Your Favorite Enemies drove all the way down to Austin, Texas, to perform at the South By Southwest! 30 hours, 2 vans with 10-12 people in each of them. The whole crew was joining the band for a few days in Cowboy Land (or what we thought would be cowboy land). It was our first time going to Austin, and we discovered there a land that was colorful beyond imagination, with so many people, all going to the same festival, but to see completely different types of music, people of different ages, different backgrounds, different tastes, but one same love for music, whatever the genre. A city that has a lot more to offer than the music, and that is very alive… That is the least we can say!

And once again this time, though on unknown grounds, the band gave a performance like never before… And the testimony from people seeing them live for the first time is no lie about it all… And for all of us, this very special adventure is still well engraved in our hearts until this day… For each and every one of us in a different way, and for some in a very peculiar one!

Toronto Rock City

Toronto Rock City

In 2008, Your Favorite Enemies performed at the Canadian Music Week, in Toronto. They traveled by van from Montreal to Toronto, in one of the biggest snowstorms of the year. You can see just how scary it was as we were passing cars and trucks that were lying on the side of the road, upside down… Scary, yes, but it was definitely worth the 6 extra hours spent on the road that day. Yes, you did read this well. It was twice as long to get to Toronto that time…

The show was a pretty intense one, as Alex broke a window at the beginning of the song ”Little Sister”, a song that has always been very intense live! He wasn’t aware of it, the window was painted black and we couldn’t see through it… lol! After the show (or was it a few days after?), after all the emotions had subsided a bit, Miss Isabel asked him what had happened during the show, and what made him throw his mic stand through the window-wall… A testimony of passion that cannot lie, a passion that kept growing and growing over the years…

With Eyes Wide Open

With Eyes Wide Open

”Open Your Eyes” has been Your Favorite Enemies’ very first video clip. Last week, you have seen how the crew members have reacted. And this week, we are sharing with you short clips that people from all over the world sent us in reaction to the video clip. People from the United States, Australia, Poland, Belgium, China, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Chile, France and Sweden.

Different people from all over the world, different in their nationalities, in their languages, in their religions, in their beliefs, but one and all the same, no matter what… Because we’re one. Because we’re united. Because we all need a place where we belong. Because we all want to be loved. Continue Reading

Happy 50th YFE-TV

Happy 50th YFE-TV

The 50th edition of the YFE-TV meant 50 weeks of YFE-TVs… And it needed to be celebrated!!!!!! And it was, believe me!!!!! But that was not the only reason why we were celebrating on that night… We were all about to hear a new song, a song that would appear on the “Love Is A Promise Whispering Goodbye” album, a song called “Would You Believe”…

Also, we had just watched the video clip for the song ”Open Your Eyes”, the final version of it, before anybody else could see it… That big screen you can see in the basement-apartment-studio was where we watched it… Anna interviewed us on the spot, just after we had watched the video… Catch the reactions, on the spot, of the band members and the crew… A video that is raw, pure, and as honest as it gets… 😉 Continue Reading

Open Your Eyes

Open Your Eyes

This is the very first video clip that Your Favorite Enemies ever did… An official one, produced by one amazing team in Montreal…

Starting very early in the morning, around 4am, if I remember well, for the crew and other actors in the video clip, the band members were to join at around 8am. It was quite far away from where we lived, in a remote place not all that easy to find… lol! Anyway, nobody slept much the night before… Filming your very first video clip is quite something!!!!

But as they were all new to filming, let’s say that a few problems occurred… I mean, we did a lot of YFE-TV episodes and stuff like this, but we were all only amateurs, right? Continue Reading

Live Music, Fight Apathy

Live Music, Fight Apathy

Recognize this place? This is the Café Campus, the first place where the band has ever performed, and where they also played last November… A place that is always synonymous with unique moments and special happenings!

This was during the special weekend for the filming of the video clip “Open Your Eyes”… Before the big day, everybody who had joined us could enjoy a very special concert by the band, different events with the band (ice skating, amongst others, and a very special dinner), different French Canadian traditions, including the cold, that freaking cold winter of ours – a pure delight for Sierra, from New Zealand… she just loved it or maybe not so much! Sef also teaches us why maple syrup is for real men… And there’s quite a logic behind all of this! And there was also some kind of wasabi contest that week-end… I think that Sef, after all those jokes going on about him being unable to become a Japanese God, wanted to prove that he truly was a Japanese God, something nobody but him could become… Continue Reading

Are you ready for Disney World?

Are you ready for Disney World?

March 2008 was the date the video clip for “Open Your Eyes” would be filmed… and well, Your Favorite Enemies being Your Favorite Enemies, it needed to be done in grand style… You know what I mean? They’ve never done anything like anyone else! And that’s what we like about them; they’ve always remained faithful to their hearts!

So they decided to invite everybody for the week-end. Not only for the week-end, but also to be part of the video-clip itself. To assist to the filming of a part of it, and to have a role in it.

This video is the invitation card the band members sent to everyone… After watching this, you knew you wanted to be there. The only thing you didn’t know is that everything would be much more intense than what was shown in this video… 😉

Enjoy!

YFE Studio Hidden Camera

YFE Studio Hidden Camera

In June 2007, the band was releasing their very first EP, called “And If I Was To Die In The Morning… Would I Still Be Sleeping With You”. It was entirely recorded in their own “studio”, if you could call that a studio back then! It was located in the basement, foam panels on the walls to provide some kind of a better sound, and every little noise that was made, meant the track needed to be done again, because the mics would record everything one way or another!

It was totally DIY, totally homemade. We were pretty far back then from the studio we have today, in a church. But the passion they had was undeniable.

As soon as the EP was finished, they started working on the album “Love Is A Promise Whispering Goodbye”, that would be released in June 2008, one year after the EP. But before the album was released, in March that same year, the band was set to film their very first video clip, for the song “Open Your Eyes”, a classic most of you already know! And in this video, Alex brings you with them in studio, where, at the time, you could preview some of the changes that occurred on the song “Open Your Eyes”… 🙂

Get to see how the recording works, how the band composes the songs, gets them ready, how they throw in their different ideas for new parts in the song… And understand what kind of tragedy Sef was living at that moment – Jeff had just been kicked out of the band (or so he thought)… It’s always impressive to see how this man’s mind works!

Discover more in the video!!!! And enjoy the process of creation!!!

Everybody Loves Jeff… Or almost… :)

Everybody Loves Jeff… Or almost… 🙂

It will be Jeff’s birthday very soon!!!! 5 years ago, the band members organized a very very very special night for him, where lots of people were invited. The night ended in a very special sushi place (ask anyone about Jeff’s birthday dinner at that Japanese restaurant – we all have different memories of it for different reasons!).

And… have you ever seen Sef with the cry in the face? Well, it happened that very night! Continue Reading

Your Favorite Enemies is back in studio… Time for Music!

Your Favorite Enemies is back in studio… Time for Music!

In January 2008, Your Favorite Enemies went back into the studio, after a short break for the Holidays! They were working on the upcoming album, of course, exploring different sounds, and perspectives. This is one thing that hasn’t changed through the years; they’ve always wanted their music to sound like them. It is THEIR very own music, and you can feel who they are through their music. They have more guts now delivering it, I guess, but this desire has never changed.

When they got back in studio, they had the upcoming album in mind, of course… But there was one more thing that was lingering in the back of their minds… Making sure that the song “Open Your Eyes” was ready for March 1st, as this was a very special week-end… People from all over the world would be coming to Montreal to assist the filming of the ”Open Your Eyes” video clip, and spend the whole week-end with Your Favorite Enemies… Continue Reading
